The background story

Invented by Dr. Robert Schindler University of California, San Francisco who was one of the pioneers of the Coclear Implant, Lyric was developed by Ear, Nose and Throat physicians, engineers and audiologists.

Dr. Schindler: “Lyric came into existence as a unique collaboration between groups of scientists, engineers and physicians who all had a common vision of trying to produce the best possible hearing aid, and we started on the assumption of: What does the patient really need? What does a hearing-aid user want and desire in a hearing aid?” “I’ve spent my career trying to make possible that which everyone else thought was impossible – which is, by the way, how you make discoveries”

The first generation of Lyric was launched in the UK in 2011 by Phonak and technological advances now mean the new Lyric is suitable for 50 per cent more people as it has been reduced in size to improve comfort and suitability.
